W RUGBY Partners with ChildFund Rugby for Türkiye Earthquake Recovery
The 2023 Türkiye earthquake was devastating, leaving countless families without homes, with many still living in temporary shelter. It's a long road to recovery, with homes and lives slowly piecing back together. For kids, bouncing back to a 'normal' life is especially hard, with confidence low and missing out on spending time with friends.
ChildFund Rugby partner with Rugby Unions globally to use the power of rugby to create positive change in the lives of children around the world. After the earthquake in Türkiye, they partnered with the Türkiye Rugby Federation to:
Boost kids' sports skills, social and emotional development, helping them find friends and role models in a safe, welcoming environment.
Train young coaches to be leaders and provide high quality sports and life skills education.
To make this happen, ChildFund Rugby needed a rugby ball partner who cared about communities and could create positive impact. Enter W RUGBY. They're all about grassroots rugby growth, and their Project: Won for Won™ means they give a ball to a community in need for every ball sold. This was perfect for ChildFund Rugby's Earthquake Recovery partnership, with W RUGBY matching each purchase and donating brand new rugby balls to help power successful outcomes.
"We need partners who understand the power of sport to deliver evidence-based social impact and that are able to provide high quality equipment," said Chris Mastaglio, the ChildFund Rugby Director. "W RUGBY was a perfect match with their focus on growing the game globally."
Andy Lewis, co-founder of W RUGBY, said, “The rugby family always steps up in tough times. We're all in to support the ChildFund Rugby and Türkiye Rugby Federation partnership and are proud to play a small part in helping these kids get back on their feet after such a traumatic time.”
So far, the partnership has reached over 900 children and 16 coaches, all new to the game, playing its part in community recovery, and in bringing new players and coaches to the game.”
