Newcastle, Australia - 28th January 2021 // W RUGBY are delighted to announce a brand new partnership with Newcastle University Rugby, Australia. A proud moment for both organisations as we look to support local rugby in the community. The Women’s 7s and First XV will play and train with W RUGBY coreplay academy balls for the upcoming 2021 season.

“We are incredibly excited to be partnering up with a team of Newcastle University’s stature,” said Dovy Cornerford, founder of W RUGBY. “W RUGBY are leaders in rugby inclusivity and having both Women’s and Men’s teams, equally, in the same partnership deal is key to our operating model and ensuring our ‘Rugby for All’ message remains on-course.”

In addition to exclusively playing with W RUGBY balls for the season, Newcastle will be helping the local Newcastle and Hunter community by donating balls to grassroots clubs with help from our initiative, Project: Won for Won.

Andy Lewis, co-founder of W RUGBY said, “we want grassroots players to love the game of rugby by providing them with top quality equipment that they would otherwise not have access to. This partnership provides us both with a fantastic opportunity to make a positive impact in the community local to Newcastle University.”

Project: Won for Won was created by W RUGBY to help alleviate some running costs at grassroots levels by donating rugby balls and equipment, allowing clubs to invest their tight budgets elsewhere and ensure the long-term protection of their local community club. For each ball sold, another is donated to grassroots clubs and schools. This was a significant factor in the decision for Newcastle University to choose W RUGBY.

“Our strategy for this season was to find an equipment partner that we can go on this journey hand-in-hand, and not become just another purchase order number,” said Will Scully, Women’s 7s Manager at Newcastle Uni. “We also took the decision to source a conscious rugby brand, not only in terms of environmental or social responsibility, but also in terms of giving back into the community.”
