Pacific Four Series Announced

What is the Pacific Four Series?

In 2022 we’ll be saying hello to a brand new Women’s rugby tournament; the Pacific Four Series. The new annual tournament will see Australia, Canada, New Zealand and USA compete not only for a title, but to qualify for future tournaments like the World XV which was announced a while back.

Canada and USA already have their fixtures announced this year, with Australia and New Zealand joining in 2022.

This tournament has ‘Rugby Championship’ vibes, a yearly Men’s tournament bringing together Pumas, Wallabies, Springboks and the All Blacks.

Whilst arguably, current Women’s World Champions New Zealand don’t need to get better, this tournament will surely act as a catalyst for the other teams to improve and take on the likes of England and France on the World stage in World Cups.

A key pillar of World Rugby’s future plans is to develop the Women’s game – and with the addition of this tournament, the rugby calendar is starting to fill up nicely with some tasty showdowns.

Bill Beaumont, head of World Rugby said, “The Pacific Four Series will provide quality playing opportunities and further support teams as they prepare to compete at Rugby World Cup 2021 in New Zealand next year. We look forward to watching teams compete again at the highest level for what will undoubtedly be a thrilling showcase of women’s elite rugby from some of the best teams in the world.”

We’re just hoping that there will be no more setbacks due to the pandemic and can finally see some long overdue competitive international rugby games. Many fixtures have been hampered in the last few years due to Covid-19, with Wallaroos last playing Black Ferns way back in 2019.

As you can see from the Instagram posts below, the players are itching to get back onto the pitch, and we’re itching to watch them.
