W RUGBY x SUBBED

W RUGBY partners with Subbed to bring boots and balls to young girls in the Pacific Islands

W RUGBY are excited to announce an important new partnership with Subbed to deliver brand new rugby balls to women and girls across Samoa who have limited access to new equipment.

Founded by former Wallaroo Kirby Sefo, Subbed was created to empower young women to talk about health and social issues. After seeing footage of Samoan girls sharing boots and playing barefoot, she was inspired to kick off project ‘Boots for Pacific,’ an initiative where new and recycled rugby boots are donated from across Australia to Samoan women and girls rugby players.

Under this exciting partnership with Subbed, alongside the donated boots W RUGBY’s Project: Won for Won will donate brand new rugby balls to Samoan rugby players.

The idea came about through discussions between both our teams, who recognised a great opportunity to do something unique together to further benefit the Samoan rugby community.

“So far we have been able to donate boots to the girls in Samoa which has been brilliant, but they have been playing with older, used balls” said former Queensland Reds Captain Sefo. “We all know that older rugby balls lose their grip and aren’t as fun to play with. Through partnering with W RUGBY, we can provide brand new, quality rugby balls that help the girls to develop and improve as players, but most importantly to love their rugby.”

W RUGBY founders Dovy Cornerford and Andy Lewis said, “Subbed are doing some amazing work for women’s rugby in Samoa, and we are so proud to have partnered with them to contribute to this cause. This type of project really brings to life our values at W RUGBY, and we are excited to see the impact this has.”

If you are a rugby club who are finding it challenging to raise funds for rugby equipment, join Project: Won for Won here.

For those who want to help grassroots grow, get yourself a brilliant new W RUGBY ball; and we’ll ensure a second ball will be making its way to rugby communities around the world that need them most.
